It’s been three and a half years since I have posted or worn makeup. The landscape has changed and so I ask for some patience as I find my footing. If I’m being honest with myself, I stopped back in early 2020 as the pandemic began. What started off as avoidance caused by nerves then shifted to feelings of my topic being too inappropriate for what was occurring in our political climate. Being from Los Angeles in the height of the Black Lives Matter movement and the riots talking about makeup felt insensitive. What quickly became a break turned into a few months and ultimately life continued.
When I left, the Makeup world was filled with Youtube celebrity drama and Instagram quickly shifted with the rise of Tik Tok. Styles from the past are no more but it has left me with figuring out, what’s currently fashionable? Is there a strict guideline similar to the infamous 2019 eyebrow? Or are we left to find sub styles coined “strawberry girl” or “glazed girl”? The simple question leaves me feeling old and dated. Obviously a personal problem but provides room for self discovery and an open mind to discover the “new” makeup world.
I hope you come along for the ride as I meet new people and reconnect with familiar faces.
