Here’s to starting a new segment to my blog. As of now, It’s been strictly reviews but I feel beauty is far more complex and the blog should reflect as such.
Earlier this year I reviewed Marc Jacob’s gorgeous #instamarc Light Filtering Contour Palette (here). I love this palette because it is extremely pigmented and blends like a dream. After doing my review, the only genuine con I could find was its price.
So when I heard Wet n Wild had created a dupe I was excited. Here’s the thing, although Wet n Wild is an extremely cheap brand. Yes I said cheap as in affordable / inexpensive; it sometimes comes out with jaw dropping products.
As you can see, both palettes share the same concept of having a highlighter and contour powder. After spending $49.00 for the luxe Marc Jacobs powder (which is well worth the price) I was curious to see how the Wet n Wild Contour Powder compared.
Could it be possible that something under $4.00 work the same?
As you can see in the image below, both Highlight shades are the same color. The only difference I found was that the Wet n Wild Highlighter appears chalkier in consistency than the Marc Jacobs Highlighter.
Once blended out, (image one the left) the Wet n Wild Highlighter appears blotchier whereas the Marc Jacobs powder blended flawlessly. Overall, I would consider the Marc Jacobs Highlighter superior to the Wet n Wild Highlighter. However, this is not to say you cannot use the Wet n Wild Highlighter. If you do, I would recommend spending adequate time blending to achieve best results.
Now lets compare the bronzer: Let me start off by stating both bronzers are highly pigmented. The Marc Jacobs bronzer leans more on the pinky side whereas the Wet n Wild bronzer leans on the cooler side. Unlike the Wet n Wild Highlighter, the bronzer is not as chalky. Similarly, I would say that the Marc Jacobs gives a more “airbrushed” finish.
Overall, I think you could get away with using the Wet N Wild Contouring Palette. Yes, it’s true, the quality of the Contouring Palette cannot compare to the Marc Jacobs #instamarc, but then again you are only paying $4.00.
I think the Wet n Wild Contouring Palette would be a great option for anyone who is beginning the contouring journey.
Have you guys tried either of these palettes?
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
